Refugees are Building a Resistance in Tapachula, Chiapas

Refugees are building a large resistance movement in Tapachula, Chiapas as the government continues to hold people under horrible condidtions and refuse to let anyone migrate farther north.

Protests continue everyday as thousands and thousands of migrants and asylum seekers are held against their will across detention centers and tent cities in Tapachula, Chiapas. The government continues to refuse to give out hardly any humanitarian visas that people need in order to legally cross check points in Mexico to get the the so-called US-Mexico border.

Serious cases of death, illness, murder, kidnappings and deportations are being reported by organizers on the ground.

A caravan of African migrants is attempting to leave Siglo XXI (“Holding Facility”, Concentration Camp) soon to make its way to Mexicali and Tijuana. The number one thing organizers on the ground are asking for right now is accompaniment. People on the ground publicizing what’s going on from a real, human perspective, supporting the caravan members and being there when there’s potential confrontation.

Hosting fundraisers and sending money to grassroots migrants organizing the protests is also a good way to stand in solidarity right now.
